Marketing T-shirts
If you have ever considered the possibility of getting into the custom
T-shirt and apparel business, then there has never been a better time
than now.
Modern technology has given us advantages like never before in the
history of modern man. Computers have literally had a significant
effect on every facet of our lives and the screen printing and custom
embroidery industry is no exception to this. Nowadays, business can
literally be conducted at the speed of light. Instead of just catering
to a Kansas City market, the internet has made it possible to expand
on the demographics that we are trying to reach. Fortunately, we are
providing a service that can be packaged and shipped to anywhere in
the country. I remember, not that long ago, when I had to drive into
the physical location in order to just unlock my doors so that my
customers could walk in. It’s not like that in today’s world. As long
as I have a cell phone and a laptop computer, I can do business from
anywhere in the world at any time. I can literally be on a golf course
or a sunny beach enjoying myself and not miss a beat.
Let’s start with marketing. Great marketing is the engine that makes
every screen printing and custom embroidery company either take off or
go nowhere. You could be the most accomplished T-shirt printing
company in Kansas City, but if people don’t know you exist and can’t
find you when it comes time that they are needing your services, then
you will likely go out of business soon. Let’s look at a few different
marketing vehicles and try to determine which of these is going to be
the best place to invest your advertising dollars. I would recommend
that you start allocating your marketing dollars towards an effective
internet campaign. For example, what do people do when trying to find
something these days? They normally get on a major search engine and
put in a search term that is relevant towards finding whatever it is
they are looking for. They don’t use the telephone book anymore as
that is, in my opinion, obsolete. Let’s compare this to radio or
television commercials. I know that when I am traveling in my car, I
normally have the radio on and I am usually listening to some sports
station. I remember hearing a Kansas City screen printing and custom
embroidery company running a 1 minute commercial spot. About 10
minutes later and several miles down the road, I could not even
remember the name of that T-shirt company. There’s an old saying that
says “out of sight out of mind”.That certainly holds true in this
case. In the next couple of weeks, we will continue to compare other
marketing vehicles to internet marketing.
